Origins

Pre-1880

Early Catholic Settlement

Fishing and farming families of Pragasapuram embraced the Catholic faith through the tireless work of Jesuit and Capuchin missionaries who traversed the coastal villages of the Tuticorin region.

A New Beginning

Formal Church Establishment

Our Lady of Assumption Church was formally established in Pragasapuram, providing a permanent spiritual home for the growing Catholic community. The original structure was a humble yet reverent building.

Parish Growth

The parish expanded its educational mission with the establishment of a catechism school, ensuring future generations received both spiritual and academic formation in the faith.

Independent Parish Status
